How can I join?

How can you join?

Joining a team or league is easy! The first step is to navigate to the membership page on the Floorball ACT website and sign up as a member. Once you are a member, you can register for any of the events listed on the website.

If you are new to the sport and unsure of how to get started, you can attend one of our regular "come and try" days where you can come along and try the sport. You can also watch our social media or check this website for updates on upcoming "come and try" days.

Alternatively, there are links and a contact form on our contact page. You can reach out to us on the Floorball ACT Facebook page or email us at info@floorballact.org.au and we will be more than happy to explain how you can come join our community.

What competitions are there in Canberra?

In Canberra, there are two main leagues for people to join.

The first is run by Floorball ACT and consists of three major events:

  • Summer Series (approximately November - March);
  • Winter Series (approximately June/July - September);
  • Super Series (approximately April - May).

These competitions are played on Saturday mornings at the Tuggeranong Archery Centre, and have two divisions to accommodate players of different skill levels. The schedule and events for these series can be viewed on the Floorball ACT website.

The second league is a social competition hosted by the Police Community Youth Club in Queanbeyan, NSW, and is joined through their website. This league is played on Thursday nights and is a more relaxed and casual option for those who want to play for fun rather than competition. This competition is not run by or affiliated with Floorball ACT, but many Canberra players participate in both competitions; so, regardless of which you join, you're going to see the same friendly faces.

Is there a competition for kids?

At present we do not have enough junior members to establish a regular competition, but! We do hold trainings on Friday afternoons during the school term and are always trying to grow our numbers so we can have games again. Suitably skilled & sized Juniors are also permitted to participate in Floorball ACT adult leagues, provided it is judged safe for them to do so.

This year, there is a Junior Australian Floorball Open for U18s being held in Brisbane that encourages participation from State teams. If you would like to get your kids involved, we have an excellent coaching group and parents that would love to have you come down and see what we are about. Contact juniors@floorballact.org.au for more information.

What do I need to be able to play?

To play floorball, you will need a stick and a ball. Floorball sticks are lightweight and have a curved blade at the bottom, which is used to control and shoot the ball. The balls are lightweight and made of plastic. Protective eyewear is optional, but recommended, especially for new players. Floorball ACT provides equipment to new players at any of the events or games, so you do not have to worry about purchasing your own equipment right away. Once you fall in love with sport we have sponsors that can provide discounts on kit to increase your competitive edge.

Heard enough but you're just not sure when the right time to join is?

Dont worry! We play year round and welcome new players at any time. If a season is not scheduled then there will likely be training or other events you can come along to. Never be afraid to reach out and say hello, we're here and are always keen to share our passion of the sport with anyone who is interested! We look forward to seeing you.
